What is OURONN?

OURONN (pronounced "our own") is the new take on social media built for community connection! We're using social media constructively to help connect our communities! OURONN is free to join, available on web, iOS and Android, and we don't sell anyone's data. Anyone age 14 and up can get their free account and start connecting!

OURONN is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio and maintains in-person engagement with the surrounding area. The OURONN Team has been spotted behind tables at events, passing out flyers in the community, attending festivals and conferences, on panel discussions, paying it forward with high school students, and even hosting a “Community Social” to help facilitate those in-person community connections!

Who is OURONN for?

OURONN is for anyone age 14 and up who wants to connect with their community in a positive way. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or student, if you’re interested in using social media to connect with your community… this platform is for you!

OURONN’s Terms and Conditions, Privacy Policy and Community Agreement were all specially tailored to help to contribute to a safe, inclusive, supportive and positive community for all ages. All users agree to these same agreements and guidelines when they sign up.

What can you do in OURONN?

OURONN takes a different approach to social media. It puts community connection at the heart of its mission. So while you’ll find the profiles, posts, videos, messaging, and topics (AKA hashtags) you’d expect from a social media platform, OURONN uses those features to empower users to connect with like-minded individuals, develop meaningful relationships, and ultimately help to build stronger communities.

OURONN’s features also include “Splashes”, 10-seconds-or-less videos you can upload and “Events” which you can create or attend to further connect with your community. In addition to that, OURONN does away with traditional algorithmic feeds and ads so you can see the content from the people you want to see. And best of all, even with all of those features, OURONN simply does not sell your data.

What kind of safety features does OURONN have?

OURONN was built with safety in mind!

Content Moderation and Reporting

OURONN has both automatic and manual content moderation features. Users can report profiles, posts, splashes, comments, convos, messages and events using the “Report” option. Users can remove items from their feed using the “Hide” option. Authors of a post or splash can remove unwanted comments using the “Mark Unconstructive” option.

Privacy Settings

OURONN provides settings to allow users to control their privacy.

“Who can start a Convo?” decides who can start a new conversation with the user’s profile. The options are ‘Anyone’, ‘Links’, and ‘No One’. ‘Links’ means only those who are linked with the user’s profile can start a new conversation.

“Default Post Visibility” decides what ‘Visibility’ setting will be applied to the user’s posts by default. The options are ‘Public’, ‘Members’, and ‘Private’. ‘Public’ means anyone can view the post whether they’re logged in or not. ‘Members’ means only signed in OURONN users can view the post. ‘Private’ means only members they’re linked with can view the post.

Individual posts and splashes have their own ‘Visibility’ setting that can be adjusted separately. By default, it will pull from the user’s “Default Post Visibility”. It can be adjusted to one of the three options (‘Public’, ‘Members’ or ‘Private’) before posting.

“Safety Mode”

Safety Mode is a special feature that is automatically enabled when users under the age of 18 sign up. When a profile has Safety Mode enabled:

• By default, only members linked with them can message them. This option can be changed to allow no one instead.
• By default, their default post visibility is set to ‘Members’. This option can be changed to ‘Private’. Their ‘Visibility’ setting on individual posts can still be changed separately and can manually be made ‘Public’ on a post-by-post basis.

Safety Mode allows younger users to benefit from using the platform while providing more visibility into who they’re communicating with.
